The Kem Kem group

kem kem desert.jpg

The Kem Kem group or Kem Kem beds as they are commonly called are a diverse and rich fossil site in Morocco, spanning a vast distance into the desert. This location was not always a dry desert, back in the Cretaceous period it formed a mighty river delta ecosystem full of life. Dinosaurs are amongst its most famous residence that once called it home but it was also home to a spectacular array of species such as flying reptiles called Pterosaurs, giant crocodilians, giant sawfish, amphibians and many more.

The Kem Kem beds get allot of attention due to the high amount of large carnivorous theropod material found throughout the area from Spinosaurids and Carcharodontosaurus. Abelisaurid remains have also been found in this region along with smaller preadtors such as Dromaeosaurs. Large herbivourous dinosaurs were also present in this region with Rebbachisaurus and other large Sauropods being found.

Fossils from these groups vary in colure from the classic red to almost bleached white depending on which deposit it was found in.
